President: Beth Hermaszewska
Hello, I’m Beth and I am a second year HSPS students at Catz. I began dancing at the age of 5 and I have taken exams up to intermediate level in Ballet (ARBTA), tap (ISTD), and advanced level in modern (ISTD) and Jazz (ARBTA). I have always loved the freedom of dancing and opportunity to be creative and get away from the world! Everywhere I have danced I have found a wonderfully welcoming and exciting community, and Cambridge is no exception! Since joining the university I have been part of the Competition Team, attended class, and taught intermediate level classes. This is my second year on the CUTAZZ committee (previously in the role of Vice President) so I clearly have a lot of enthusiasm for the society!
As President, my role is to oversee and support the committee, and manage the general running of the society. My main responsibility is to organise our annual show in February. CUTAZZ is a brilliant, diverse community and incredibly welcoming to all dancers, whether complete beginners or very experienced. We have grown tremendously in the recent years and are going from strength to strength.
Please contact me with any questions, suggestions or problems. We look forward to dancing with you!
Vice President: Alana Cutland
Hey, I’m Alana, a second year Bio Natsci at Robinson. I’ve been dancing since the age of 4- I started out going to baby ballet classes, and have since taken up modern, hip hop and commercial. I’ve also dabbled in tap and salsa, but with more enthusiasm than skill in those cases! I’ve loved every minute of being part of CUTAZZ- the classes are always super welcoming and non-judgmental, which to me, is one of the most important things in dance. The annual show is a definite highlight for me- it’s so nice to get to show off all our hard work from across the year. Being a member of the Street competition team this year has also been a lot of fun, it’s boosted my confidence and given me the opportunity to develop my own style. I’m really looking forward to another fab year with CUTAZZ!
Competitions Officer 1: Eliza Mahoney
Hello, I’m Eliza, a second year English student, and I am co-captain of the CUTAZZ competition team. I have been dancing for 18 years, and I have trained in ballet, contemporary, tap and jazz. Becoming involved with CUTAZZ was the best decision I made when starting at uni – I have been on the competition team for the last two years, but I have also attended and taught CUTAZZ classes which are so much fun (and a fab break from work!). This year, alongside Atlanta, I will be running auditions for the new competition teams, entering us into national competitions and trying to lead the team into even more victory (after a hugely successful year, we have a hard act to follow!). Please do send us an email if you have any questions about the competition team – we hope to see lots of you at auditions!
Competitions Officer 2: Atlanta Hatch
Hello! I’m Atlanta, and I’m in my first year reading English at Corpus Christi! I have trained in multiple dance styles since the age of two, and before coming to Cambridge spent a year studying Contemporary Dance at Trinity Laban. In the last year, I have competed in several of the competition teams, attended and taught CUTAZZ classes, as well as preparing to perform as part of the Young Cast for Matthew Bourne’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’. I cannot stress enough how lucky I feel to have found CUTAZZ- I have been truly struck by how friendly, passionate and talented everyone in the society is, and am so grateful to have been able to train with people equally in love with dancing!
This year, I will be working with Eliza to build on the competition team’s amazing success- we will be running auditions in October, before organising rehearsals and competitions for the next year. Please do drop us an email if you have any questions about the competition team- we can’t wait to meet you all in October!!
Secretary: Griffin Twemlow
Hey! I’m Griffin, a third year medical student at Emma. I started dancing as a child with ballet and jazz classes and tried lots of different styles throughout school, including musical theatre, modern, street and tap. Over the last couple of years I’ve discovered a love for freestyle club styles like vogue and waacking, as well as experimenting with fun things like heels commercial!
I’ve really enjoyed being part of CUTAZZ for the past three years and am excited to get even more involved with the society ☺As secretary I organise rooms for classes (if you know of any hidden gems let me know!) as well as designing the programme and the DVD cover for the show. I also run the mailing list, so if you’re not on it and would like to be, send me an email!
Hello!! I’m limyi, a second year land ec at fitz! I started getting into dance a few years back when I was 17 and have learnt a few street styles, such as commercial and hip hop!! I think the best thing about dancing is that it offers everything – good music, good company, a good workout and just a really good time in general!! Deciding to join CUTAZZ has got to be one of the best decisions in my Cambridge life and I don’t know what I would have done without it. I’ve met some of the most genuine and most dedicated individuals here and am certain I’ll meet even more!! Can’t wait for an amazing year ahead! (ृ ु ´͈ ᵕ `͈ )ु
You’re more than welcome to drop me an email regarding any questions, suggestions or problems you might have regarding our social media/website/promotional material!
Treasurer: Ethan Nott
Hi, I’m Ethan, a 3rd year Engineer at St John’s. I have danced since I was 7, starting with Ballet and Street Dance and then trying out more styles as the years went on. I quickly realised that ballet was not for me and then later in sixth form came across Contemporary Dance. It quickly became my favourite of mine and I was lucky enough to be accepted into the National Youth Dance Company soon after. I have loved my previous years dancing and choreographing in CUTAZZ and wanted to get more involved in the society so that as many people as possible get to reap both the physical and mental benefits of dancing. As Treasurer I will be responsible for looking after the society’s finances. If you have any ideas, questions or problems relating to costs, sponsorship, finances and payments please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
Social Secretary: Monique Dunne
Hi I’m Monique, a second year Geography student at Selwyn. I’ve been doing dance since the age of three, training in ballet, tap, lyrical and jazz. Dance has been such a huge part of my life growing up and I’m so glad I’ve been able to continue it at uni! I was on the competition team 2018-19 after only discovering it in my second year and I can’t wait to become much more involved with the whole society. My main role as social sec is to make sure CUTAZZ is as fun and welcoming as possible through organising events outside of class, if you have and questions/worries feel free to email me. I’m really excited to get to know everyone a bit better and have another amazing cutazz year!!
Merchandise: Natalie Rees
Hi, I’m Natalie a third year Astrophysics student at Magdalene. I have danced from the age of 5 primarily taking exams in Ballet and Modern. However, dancing with CUTAZZ and the competition team has given me the opportunity to branch out and learn many different styles. Taking part in the shows and teaching classes have been definite highlights of my time at Cambridge along with meeting so many amazing people. I am your merchandise officer for the year so if you have any ideas or suggestions for new stash please send them my way. I will also be organising costumes for the annual show and promise to make everyone look and feel fabulous on stage!
